Which studio developed Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo 64?
Answer
HAL Laboratory
Answer
HAL Laboratory
HAL Laboratory developed Pokémon Snap for the Nintendo 64.
Released in Japan in 1999 and internationally in 2000, Pokémon Snap changed the series' usual formula. Instead of catching Pokémon in battles, players rode along fixed courses and photographed wild Pokémon in their natural environments. Professor Oak evaluated the photographs, rewarding images based on factors such as subject position, size, and pose.
The game was produced for Nintendo 64 by HAL Laboratory, a studio known for work on series including Kirby. Pokémon Snap's photography concept made it a distinctive spin-off and showed that Pokémon gameplay could extend beyond role-playing and combat.
The title is sometimes attributed to Game Freak because Game Freak developed the main Pokémon role-playing games. Nintendo published Pokémon Snap, while Creatures contributed to the broader Pokémon brand, but HAL Laboratory is the developer credited for this particular game. A sequel, New Pokémon Snap, was later developed by Bandai Namco Studios for Nintendo Switch.
