Elena is the Street Fighter III character described as an African princess from Kenya.
She debuted in Street Fighter III: New Generation (1997) and fights with capoeira, a martial art and dance form associated with Brazil. Her character is the daughter of a Kenyan tribal leader, and her storyline emphasizes travel, friendship, and studying abroad rather than conquest or revenge.
Elena is also distinctive mechanically: her attacks are built around long-range kicks and acrobatic movement, and she can use the Healing super art to restore health. That combination makes her easy to recognize among Street Fighter III’s cast.
A common mix-up is Ibuki, another Street Fighter III woman, but Ibuki is a Japanese ninja. Makoto is Japanese as well, while Laura is a Brazilian fighter introduced later in Street Fighter V. Elena is the Kenyan princess and the series’ first character from Africa.
