Which streaming service debuted the 2020 Fresh Prince reunion special?

The story behind the answer

The 2020 Fresh Prince reunion special debuted on HBO Max.

Officially titled The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion, the unscripted special reunited key cast members to mark the sitcom’s 30th anniversary. HBO Max announced that it would premiere in November 2020, bringing together Will Smith, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

The program was a retrospective rather than a new scripted episode. The cast revisited auditions, memorable scenes, the show’s cultural impact and the relationships formed during its original six-season run. It also included a notable conversation between Smith and Janet Hubert, the original actress who played Aunt Vivian, about her departure from the series.

The special is sometimes confused with an earlier virtual gathering on Smith’s Snapchat series Will From Home, which aired in April 2020. That online reunion happened before the HBO Max production. The HBO Max special was filmed later on the show’s original set and premiered on November 19, 2020, in the United States.
