Which stock exchange was at the center of the 1873 Vienna stock-market crash?

The story behind the answer

The Vienna Stock Exchange was at the center of the 1873 Vienna stock-market crash.

A speculative boom in Austria-Hungary helped push share prices and property values sharply higher before the market collapsed on May 9, 1873. The event became known as the Gründerkrach, or founders’ crash, and it followed the opening of the Vienna World’s Fair earlier that year.

Bank failures and falling asset prices spread the shock through Central Europe and contributed to the broader Panic of 1873. The crisis affected Germany and the United States as well, where financial failures and railroad problems helped produce a long period of deflation and weak growth often called the Long Depression.

The Vienna crash is sometimes confused with the entire Panic of 1873. Vienna was the initial symbolic epicenter, while the wider crisis developed across several countries and financial systems over subsequent years.
