Which Stevie Wonder album was his first to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200?

The story behind the answer

Songs in the Key of Life was Stevie Wonder’s first album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Released by Motown on September 28, 1976, the double album topped the U.S. chart and became one of Wonder’s defining works. It includes “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” and “Pastime Paradise,” among other widely recognized songs.

The album followed a remarkable creative run that included Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, and Fulfillingness’ First Finale. Those albums were critically acclaimed, but Songs in the Key of Life marked his first Billboard 200 chart-topper.

It is also frequently confused with Innervisions because that 1973 album won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Songs in the Key of Life later won that award as well, at the 19th Grammy Awards in 1977.
