Fizzio was Starbucks’ first carbonated soft drink, launched in 2014. Unlike Starbucks’ coffee and tea drinks, Fizzio was made with a carbonation process in stores and was offered in flavored, non-coffee beverages.
The product formed part of Starbucks’ effort to broaden its menu beyond traditional hot coffee. Customers could choose a drink that was carbonated to order, giving the beverage a different texture and preparation method from bottled sodas or sparkling water.
Fizzio is sometimes confused with Starbucks Refreshers, which are fruit-based caffeinated drinks, or with bottled ready-to-drink beverages sold in supermarkets. The key distinction is that Fizzio was a Starbucks café product made through in-store carbonation.
