Hyacinth is a spring flower commonly associated with Nowruz decorations. Its bright blooms and strong fragrance make it a popular seasonal addition to Iranian homes and the Haft-sin display.
Nowruz preparations often include buying flowers along with new clothes and carrying out a thorough spring cleaning. Hyacinths are especially recognizable in these arrangements, while tulips are also popular and conspicuous flowers used during the season.
The association reflects Nowruz’s larger themes of spring, renewal, beauty, and returning life after winter. Hyacinth may appear beside the seven symbolic “S” items, although it is not itself one of the seven required Haft-sin elements.
A common mistake is to assume every flower seen on a Haft-sin table belongs to the core list. The traditional items include sprouts, samanu, senjed, garlic, apple, sumac, and vinegar; flowers such as hyacinth are additional decorations.
