Cadaqués is the Spanish town associated with Salvador Dalí’s house-museum at Portlligat.
Portlligat is a small coastal settlement beside Cadaqués on the Cap de Creus peninsula in Catalonia. Dalí and Gala gradually assembled their home there from a group of fishermen’s huts, creating an irregular residence filled with objects, artworks, and unusual decorative details.
Dalí lived and worked at Portlligat for long periods, and the landscape strongly influenced his imagery. The house remained closely connected with his personal and artistic life until Gala’s death in 1982. It is now preserved as a museum by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation.
Cadaqués is not the same place as Figueres, where Dalí was born and where his Theatre-Museum stands. Both towns, however, are central to understanding his Catalan background.
