Which spacecraft mission photographed Saturn’s moon Pandora during its 2004–2017 tour?

The story behind the answer

The Cassini–Huygens mission photographed Saturn’s moon Pandora during its 2004–2017 tour of the Saturn system. NASA’s Cassini orbiter made repeated observations of the moon, including detailed views that helped scientists study its irregular shape and relationship with Saturn’s F ring.

Cassini–Huygens was a joint NASA, European Space Agency, and Italian Space Agency mission. Cassini orbited Saturn, while the Huygens probe descended through Titan’s atmosphere and landed there in 2005. Pandora was not the mission’s landing target, but it was one of the many moons and rings examined by the orbiter.

The moon had already been discovered in Voyager 1 images in 1980. Cassini therefore did not discover Pandora; it provided later, closer observations and improved knowledge of the satellite’s surface and orbital environment. Galileo explored Jupiter, New Horizons flew past Pluto and Arrokoth, and Rosetta studied comet 67P, so none is the correct mission for Saturn’s Pandora.
