Which spacecraft first landed humans on the Moon?
Answer
Apollo 11
Answer
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 was the spacecraft mission that first landed humans on the Moon.
NASA’s Apollo 11 mission launched from Florida on 16 July 1969. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Eagle lunar module in the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility on 20 July, while command module pilot Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard Columbia.
Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, followed by Aldrin. The astronauts spent about 21 hours and 36 minutes on the Moon and collected lunar rock and soil samples before returning to Earth on 24 July 1969.
Apollo 11 fulfilled President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 goal of landing a crewed spacecraft on the Moon and returning it safely before the decade ended. The mission relied on the Saturn V rocket and marked a decisive achievement in the Space Race. Apollo 12 followed with a precision landing later in 1969.
