Nongshim is the South Korean instant-noodle company that produces the spicy seafood-flavored Neoguri brand.
Neoguri was introduced in 1982 and became known for unusually thick noodles and a spicy seafood flavor. The product is a ramyeon, the Korean term commonly used for instant noodles, rather than a traditional Japanese ramen restaurant dish. Its seasoning combines seafood-inspired flavors with the heat associated with Korean instant noodles.
Neoguri has appeared in several product forms, including mild, hot, stir-fry, cup, and large-bowl versions. The Korean version is especially recognizable for including a large piece of kombu, or dried kelp; some international versions have differed in their ingredients.
Neoguri also gained global attention through the 2019 film Parasite. The movie’s chapaguri, sometimes called “ram-don” in English-language coverage, combines Neoguri with Nongshim’s Chapagetti noodles. That pairing helped introduce the brand to many viewers outside South Korea.
