Which South American country is home to Angel Falls?
Answer
Venezuela
Answer
Venezuela
Angel Falls is in Venezuela. It plunges from Auyán-tepui in Canaima National Park, in Bolívar State, southeastern Venezuela.
The waterfall has a total height of about 979 metres, including cascades, and its main uninterrupted drop is roughly 807 metres. That makes it the world’s tallest uninterrupted waterfall. The falls feed the Churún River, which eventually joins the Orinoco River system.
The name comes from Jimmie Angel, a U.S. aviator who flew over the falls in 1933 while searching for an ore deposit. In 1937, his plane crashed while attempting to land on Auyán-tepui; Angel and his companions then spent 11 days hiking off the mountain. His aircraft remained on the tepui for decades before being removed by helicopter.
A common mix-up is the waterfall’s height ranking: Angel Falls is generally accepted as the tallest uninterrupted waterfall, while measurements of total waterfall height have prompted comparisons with Tugela Falls. The Indigenous Pemon name Kerepakupai Vená is also used.
