Which South American country has the national park Torres del Paine?

The story behind the answer

Chile has Torres del Paine National Park. The park is in Chilean Patagonia, in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region, and is famous for granite peaks, glaciers, lakes, and windswept steppe.

Torres del Paine was established in 1959 and later became part of Chile’s protected-area system. Its name refers to the Paine Massif and the three distinctive granite towers called the Torres del Paine. “Paine” comes from a Tehuelche word commonly translated as blue.

The park is sometimes confused with nearby Patagonian attractions in Argentina, particularly Los Glaciares National Park and Mount Fitz Roy. Those places are across the international border. Torres del Paine itself is in Chile and is known for the W and O trekking routes.

The park protects habitats for species including guanacos, pumas, and the Andean condor. Its landscape has been shaped by glaciation, and Grey Glacier is one of its best-known features. Weather can change quickly, so visitors often experience sun, rain, and strong wind in one day.
