Which South American country contains the Nazca Lines?

The story behind the answer

Peru contains the Nazca Lines.

The Nazca Lines are enormous geoglyphs etched into the desert floor of southern Peru, especially on the coastal plain around Nazca and Palpa. Their designs include animals, plants, geometric shapes, and long straight lines that can be understood best from elevated viewpoints or the air.

The main figures were created by removing the dark, weathered surface stones to expose lighter ground beneath. Most are associated with the Nazca culture, which flourished in the region roughly between 200 BCE and 600 CE, although some lines predate it.

The geoglyphs are often linked with astronomical or ritual interpretations, but their exact purpose remains debated. They are not in Bolivia or Chile, despite the wider desert landscape shared across the central Andes.
