Cape Town traditionally holds a major New Year's Eve carnival at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
The V&A Waterfront is a large mixed-use harbor precinct with shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and public spaces. Its New Year's Eve program has featured live music, performers, a carnival atmosphere, and views across the working harbor. Table Mountain and the waterfront's illuminated buildings provide a distinctive setting for visitors welcoming the new year.
The precinct is named for Queen Victoria and her son, Prince Alfred, who visited the Cape in 1860. It developed from the historic harbor area and remains both a tourist destination and an active port environment. Cape Town's wider New Year season also includes the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival, whose principal parades traditionally occur on 2 January rather than at midnight on 31 December. Event schedules and entertainment lineups can change annually.
