Which songwriting team wrote The Supremes hits "Baby Love" and "Stop! In the Name of Love"?

The story behind the answer

Which songwriting team wrote The Supremes hits "Baby Love" and "Stop! In the Name of Love"? Holland–Dozier–Holland wrote both songs. The Detroit-based trio helped create the polished, emotionally urgent sound that became closely associated with Motown in the 1960s.

The team consisted of brothers Brian Holland and Eddie Holland, together with Lamont Dozier. At Motown, Brian Holland and Dozier generally handled composition and production, while Eddie Holland focused heavily on lyrics and vocal arrangements. Their division of labor produced songs with memorable hooks, dramatic builds, and tightly shaped vocal parts.

"Baby Love" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1964, while "Stop! In the Name of Love" reached No. 1 in 1965. Both were recorded by the Supremes during the group’s peak with Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson. Holland–Dozier–Holland also wrote major hits for the Four Tops and Martha and the Vandellas. A common mix-up is attributing these songs to other famous Motown collaborators, but Jam and Lewis, Gamble and Huff, and Ashford & Simpson were separate songwriting teams.
