Rosé and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” received Song of the Year honors at the 2025 MTV VMAs.
The award recognized the collaboration’s enormous global impact after its release in October 2024. “APT.” takes its name from the Korean drinking-game chant “apateu,” derived from the Korean word for apartment. Rosé, a member of Blackpink, and Mars built the song around that catchy repeated refrain, blending pop-rock energy with a highly memorable hook.
The 2025 ceremony was held on September 7 at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, and was hosted by LL Cool J. “APT.” competed against songs including “Die with a Smile,” “Manchild,” and “Espresso,” but those tracks were nominees rather than the winner. A common mix-up is confusing Song of the Year with Video of the Year: Ariana Grande’s “Brighter Days Ahead” won the latter award. The Song of the Year category itself was first introduced at the 2018 VMAs.
