“Teardrop” by Massive Attack plays during the opening credits of most House M.D. episodes. Its distinctive vocals and electronic rhythm became closely associated with the series.
The song appears in the opening title sequence alongside medical imagery and stylized shots of the principal cast. The sequence visually links anatomy, diagnosis, and the show’s central character. Massive Attack released “Teardrop” in 1998 as part of the album Mezzanine, several years before House premiered.
The opening music was not completely identical in every broadcast context. Some international versions and certain episodes used modified title sequences or different music, and the shortened opening in later seasons could omit portions of the original presentation. “How to Save a Life” by The Fray is also strongly associated with House because it appeared prominently in the series, but it was not the regular opening-credit song.
