Which song on Metallica's The Black Album is the shortest track?

“Holier than Thou” is the shortest track on Metallica's The Black Album, running 3 minutes and 47 seconds.

It appears as track three, following “Enter Sandman” and “Sad but True.” Its compact length contrasts with several of the album's longer songs, including “Wherever I May Roam,” “The Unforgiven,” and “Nothing Else Matters.”

The song addresses moral hypocrisy and people who judge others while presenting themselves as superior. Although it was not one of the album's five commercial singles, it was considered strongly enough during the sessions that producer Bob Rock reportedly viewed it as a possible lead single.

Its position and length can cause mix-ups because “Don't Tread on Me” has a round four-minute running time. Four minutes is close, but “Holier than Thou” is the album's briefest standard track.
