Which song closes Metallica's original 1991 Black Album track list?

“The Struggle Within” closes Metallica's original 1991 Black Album track list.

It is the twelfth and final song on the standard studio album, following “Through the Never.” The track provides a forceful ending to a sequence that begins with the internationally famous “Enter Sandman.”

Listeners sometimes confuse the album's final track with “Nothing Else Matters,” because that song was one of the record's best-known singles and appears late in the sequence. On the original album, however, “Nothing Else Matters” is track eight, not the closer.

Expanded anniversary releases include many additional recordings after the original sequence. Those bonus tracks do not change the identity of the standard album's closing song, which remains “The Struggle Within.”
