Mark Selby won the 2016 World Snooker Championship by defeating Ding Junhui 18–14 in the final.
The final took place at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre and gave Selby his second world title. He had previously won the championship in 2014, when he defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan. The 2016 victory returned Selby to the top of the sport after a season in which he also won several major events.
Ding Junhui became the first Asian player to reach a World Championship final. His run included a semi-final victory over Alan McManus, while Selby defeated Marco Fu in the other semi-final.
Selby’s tactical safety play and ability to win long, complicated frames were central to the result. The 2016 title also made him the first player since John Higgins in 1998 to win the World Championship after losing the previous year’s final.
