Which snooker player was the first to win the World Championship three times in a row at the Crucible?

The story behind the answer

Steve Davis was the first snooker player to win the World Championship three times in a row at the Crucible.

Davis captured the title in 1983, 1984 and 1985, becoming the first player to complete a three-year winning streak after the championship moved to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. His 1985 final against Dennis Taylor ended in the famous 18–17 deciding-frame result.

Davis had already reached the 1981 final before winning his first Crucible title. He later won again in 1986, 1987 and 1989, giving him six World Championship victories in total. His tactical discipline and consistent break-building made him the leading player of the 1980s.

The record is distinct from the overall modern streak held by Stephen Hendry, who won five consecutive titles from 1990 to 1994. Ray Reardon also won six world titles, but his championship victories came before the Crucible era and were not three consecutive Crucible wins.
