Which Snap co-founder is listed as the company's CTO?

The story behind the answer

Bobby Murphy is listed as Snap Inc.’s chief technology officer.

Murphy co-founded the company with Evan Spiegel and Reggie Brown while the three were students at Stanford University. His role has centered on engineering and technology, making CTO an especially fitting title within the company’s leadership structure.

Murphy helped build the technical foundations of the disappearing-image service that became Snapchat. After the early Picaboo prototype was relaunched as Snapchat in 2011, he led engineering work as the product grew from a simple photo-messaging app into a larger platform incorporating video, augmented-reality effects, and camera hardware.

The other names can cause confusion because they are connected to Snap’s history. Evan Spiegel is the co-founder and chief executive officer, Michael Lynton has served as chairman, and Reggie Brown was an early co-founder whose relationship with the company later ended. CTO therefore identifies Murphy, not the company’s CEO or chairman.
