The Taiwan skyscraper famous for launching New Year's Eve fireworks from its exterior is Taipei 101.
Taipei 101 is a landmark in Taipei's Xinyi District. Its fireworks display uses the building's facade as part of the show, creating bursts that appear to travel around the tower's stacked sections. The event is accompanied by a countdown and is watched by large crowds in Taipei as well as international television audiences.
The tower officially opened in 2004 and held the title of the world's tallest building until Dubai's Burj Khalifa surpassed it in 2010. Its name refers to the building's 101 floors above ground. The architecture combines modern engineering with design references associated with East Asian traditions.
Fireworks are not launched from the tower every year in exactly the same format; the program and visual effects can change. Taipei 101 is also sometimes confused with the nearby Taipei World Trade Center, but the fireworks landmark is the skyscraper itself.
