Which skyscraper hosts Dubai's famous New Year's Eve fireworks and light displays?

The story behind the answer

Dubai's famous New Year's Eve fireworks and light displays are hosted by the Burj Khalifa.

The Burj Khalifa is the world's tallest building, standing 828 metres tall in Downtown Dubai. Its New Year's Eve spectacle uses the tower's façade as a giant vertical screen, combining LED illumination, projections, lasers, fountains, and fireworks. The display is watched by crowds around the tower and by international television audiences.

The building opened officially on January 4, 2010, although its inauguration was deliberately staged as a major public spectacle. Its original project name was Burj Dubai, and it was renamed Burj Khalifa in honour of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The tower is sometimes confused with the Burj Al Arab, Dubai's sail-shaped luxury hotel. They are separate landmarks in different parts of the city. New Year's programs around the Burj Khalifa can change from year to year, but the tower remains the central landmark of Dubai's downtown celebration.
