Taipei 101 has hosted Taipei’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks display since 2005.
The Taipei 101 skyscraper became a major symbol of Taiwan’s capital after opening in 2004. Its first major New Year’s Eve fireworks show followed on December 31, 2004, welcoming 2005. Fireworks are launched from multiple levels of the building, producing a display that outlines its distinctive tiered form.
Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building from its completion until the opening of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in 2010. The tower’s height and engineering features make it especially recognizable during the countdown, although the New Year’s production is a coordinated visual show rather than a simple display from a single rooftop. The number, timing, and choreography of fireworks can change each year.
