Which singer's 2001 album is titled Aaliyah?

The story behind the answer

Which singer's 2001 album is titled Aaliyah? The answer is Aaliyah.

Aaliyah is the third and final studio album by American singer Aaliyah. Blackground Records and Virgin Records released it in 2001, beginning with a Japanese release on July 7 and a U.S. release on July 17. Because of its red cover, the album is also commonly called “The Red Album.”

The record blends R&B with neo-soul, pop, hip-hop, dance-pop, and experimental production. Aaliyah worked with longtime collaborator Timbaland as well as producers including Bud'da, J. Dub, Rapture, and Eric Seats. Static Major wrote many of the songs, helping create the restrained, futuristic sound that became central to her later artistic identity.

The album initially debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. After Aaliyah died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001, its sales surged and it reached No. 1, becoming her only album to top a U.S. chart. The title can be confusing because it is both the artist's name and the album's name; her earlier studio albums were Age Ain't Nothing but a Number and One in a Million.
