The singer who released the 2017 debut studio album Ctrl was SZA.
Ctrl was released on June 9, 2017, through Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records. It was SZA’s first full-length studio album, following her earlier independent EPs See.SZA.Run, S, and Z. The album’s title is pronounced “Control,” although it is stylized as Ctrl.
The record blends alternative R&B, neo-soul, hip-hop, pop, and electronic influences. Guest performers include Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy, and Isaiah Rashad. Its singles included “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” “Drew Barrymore,” “Broken Clocks,” and “Garden (Say It like Dat).”
A common mix-up is confusing Ctrl with SZA’s 2022 album SOS, her second studio album. Ctrl was the breakthrough release that introduced her emotionally direct songwriting to a much wider audience, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and earning several Grammy nominations.
