Chayanne recorded “Tiempo de Vals,” a song widely associated with quinceañera dances.
The Puerto Rican singer released the song on his 1990 studio album Tiempo de Vals. Its slow, formal character made it suitable for ceremonial dances, including the traditional waltz performed at many quinceañeras. Families may use other songs, but Chayanne’s recording became especially recognizable in Spanish-speaking communities.
“Tiempo de Vals” should not be confused with the generic phrase vals de quinceañera, which can refer to many different songs or to the dance itself. Music choices are not fixed: contemporary celebrations may feature pop, regional Mexican music, salsa, bachata, or choreographed medleys.
Chayanne, born Elmer Figueroa Arce, began his career with the Puerto Rican youth group Los Chicos before becoming a solo artist. His recording career spans Spanish-language pop and romantic ballads.
