Which singer performed the original English Pokémon Theme?

The story behind the answer

Jason Paige performed the original English Pokémon Theme.

The song served as the opening theme for the first season of the English-language Pokémon anime. John Siegler and John Loeffler wrote the song, while Paige supplied the lead vocals. Its energetic lyrics and repeated slogan helped make it one of the most recognizable television themes associated with video games.

The song first appeared with the English adaptation of the anime in 1998 and was later included on the 1999 album Pokémon 2.B.A. Master. Paige also recorded an extended version for that album. The phrase “Gotta catch ’em all!” became closely associated with Pokémon's English-language marketing.

A common mix-up is to identify one of the songwriters as the singer. David Rolfe played guitar and later performed other Pokémon themes, while Rika Matsumoto performed the Japanese opening song Aim to Be a Pokémon Master. Those are separate recordings from the English Pokémon Theme.
