The singer featured on Kanye West’s 2007 single “Good Life” is T-Pain.
The song appears on West’s third studio album, Graduation, and was released as the album’s third single on October 2, 2007. West and producer DJ Toomp built the track around a sped-up sample of Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” while T-Pain supplied the prominent Auto-Tuned hooks and bridge.
The collaboration grew from studio sessions in which T-Pain recorded several possible chorus ideas. West assembled elements from those performances into the final anthem. The song also includes background vocals from John Legend and Ne-Yo, which can cause occasional confusion about who is officially featured.
“Good Life” became a major hit, reaching number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Hot Rap Songs chart. Its success also helped connect T-Pain’s highly recognizable Auto-Tune style with the sound West explored more fully on 808s & Heartbreak the following year.
