Which Silicon Valley city is home to the Computer History Museum?
Answer
Mountain View
Answer
Mountain View
The Computer History Museum is in Mountain View, California.
The museum preserves the history of computing, from early calculating devices and mainframes to personal computers, software, networking, and the internet. Its Mountain View campus is located at 1401 North Shoreline Boulevard, in the middle of the region widely identified with Silicon Valley.
The institution traces its roots to The Computer Museum in Boston. After that museum closed, its collection moved west, and the organization adopted the name Computer History Museum in 2000. It opened its Mountain View building to the public in 2002; the facility had previously been occupied by Silicon Graphics, another important Silicon Valley company.
A common mix-up is confusing Mountain View with nearby technology centers such as Cupertino, Palo Alto, and San Jose. Those cities are strongly associated with Apple, Stanford-linked startups, and major technology companies, respectively, but the Computer History Museum itself is in Mountain View. Its collection includes artifacts such as an Apple I, Cray supercomputers, and a restored IBM 1401.
