Victoria was the ship that completed the first circumnavigation of Earth in 1522 after Ferdinand Magellan's expedition began.
Magellan's fleet left Spain in 1519 with five ships: Trinidad, San Antonio, Concepción, Victoria, and Santiago. Magellan was killed in the Philippines in 1521, so he did not personally complete the voyage. Juan Sebastián Elcano took command of Victoria and brought it back to Sanlúcar de Barrameda on September 6, 1522.
Victoria was the only ship in the fleet to finish the complete journey. It returned with 18 surviving crew members, after crossing the Atlantic and Indian oceans and rounding the Cape of Good Hope. The expedition demonstrated in practice that the world's oceans were connected and that Earth could be circumnavigated by sea.
The voyage is often called Magellan's circumnavigation, but the completed return was achieved under Elcano. The ship's name is sometimes confused with Trinidad, the expedition's flagship, which was captured and later lost in the Pacific.
