Which ship carried the Pilgrims across the Atlantic to Plymouth Colony in 1620?

The story behind the answer

The Mayflower carried the Pilgrims across the Atlantic to Plymouth Colony in 1620.

Mayflower was an English merchant ship that transported English families and other passengers to North America. The voyage began in September 1620 and lasted about 10 weeks. The ship reached Cape Cod in November, rather than the Colony of Virginia, where the passengers had originally intended to settle.

The group included 102 passengers and roughly 25 to 30 crew members. Before leaving the ship, the male passengers signed the Mayflower Compact, an agreement outlining a basic form of self-government. The settlement they established became Plymouth Colony in present-day Massachusetts.

A common mix-up is the Speedwell, which was intended to make the voyage with Mayflower. Leaks forced Speedwell to turn back, leaving Mayflower to continue alone. The Fortune arrived at Plymouth the following year, so it was not the ship of the famous 1620 voyage.
