Which Sherlock episode was directed by Benjamin Caron?

The story behind the answer

Benjamin Caron directed the Sherlock episode “The Final Problem.”

It is the third and final episode of Series 4, as well as the thirteenth episode of the television series overall. Written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, the story sends Sherlock, John Watson and Mycroft Holmes to Sherrinford, a maximum-security island facility controlled by Sherlock’s secret sister, Eurus.

The title echoes Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Final Problem,” the story associated with Sherlock Holmes’s confrontation with Professor Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls. The BBC episode uses that title but develops a different plot centred on family trauma, manipulation and Sherlock’s childhood memories of Redbeard.

The answer is often confused with nearby Series 4 episodes. Rachel Talalay directed “The Six Thatchers,” while Nick Hurran directed both “The Lying Detective” and the Series 3 episode “His Last Vow.” “The Final Problem” first aired on BBC One on 15 January 2017.
