Which sermon follows the Eid al-Adha prayer?

The story behind the answer

The sermon that follows the Eid al-Adha prayer is called the khutbah.

The word khutbah means a formal sermon or address in Islamic religious practice. On the two major Islamic festivals—Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha—the sermon traditionally comes after the congregational Eid prayer. This order differs from Friday prayer, when the sermon precedes the prayer.

An Eid al-Adha khutbah commonly connects the festival with sacrifice, obedience, charity, and the example of Ibrahim and his son. It may also explain practical rules concerning udhiyah, the ritual sacrifice, and remind worshippers to share its meat with relatives, neighbours, and people in need.

Takbir means proclaiming God's greatness and is especially prominent around Eid, but it is not the sermon. Adhan and iqama are calls associated with regular prayers; Eid prayer is traditionally performed without either call. The person delivering the khutbah is known as the khatib.
