Which series of seven fantasy novels did C. S. Lewis write?

The story behind the answer

C. S. Lewis wrote the seven-book fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia.

The books describe the fictional world of Narnia, where talking animals, mythical creatures, and human visitors encounter the lion Aslan. Lewis published the novels between 1950 and 1956, beginning with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and ending with The Last Battle.

The series is often discussed for its Christian symbolism, although its stories also draw on Greek and Roman mythology, Norse legend, fairy tales, and traditional children’s literature. The novels can be read in publication order or in the internal chronological order of Narnian history; those two sequences begin with different books.

The title is plural because the work is a collection of seven connected novels rather than one continuous volume. Its most famous doorway into the fantasy world is a wardrobe discovered by children in an English country house.
