Nvidia became the first chipmaker to exceed a US$1 trillion market capitalization in 2023.
Nvidia crossed the milestone in May 2023 as investors anticipated explosive demand for its graphics processors in artificial-intelligence computing. Its stock-market value rose sharply as cloud companies and technology firms raced to build AI systems.
Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. The company became especially well known for GeForce graphics cards, but its data-center processors and CUDA software platform became central to modern machine-learning development.
The US$1 trillion figure refers to market capitalization—the share price multiplied by the number of outstanding shares—not annual revenue or cash holdings. Nvidia later joined a small group of mega-cap companies whose market values reached multiple trillions of dollars.
