Which Seattle landmark is a 605-foot tower with an observation deck and revolving restaurant?

The story behind the answer

Which Seattle landmark is a 605-foot tower with an observation deck and revolving restaurant? The Space Needle. This distinctive observation tower was built in Seattle Center for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair and quickly became an icon of the city.

The tower’s design combines businessman Edward E. Carlson’s idea of a giant balloon with architect John Graham Jr.’s flying-saucer concept. Engineer Victor Steinbrueck helped shape its famous hourglass profile and tripod base. Visitors reach an observation deck about 520 feet above ground, with views of downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier.

The Space Needle originally featured a revolving restaurant, later known as SkyCity. A major renovation added the Loupe, an indoor observation level with a revolving glass floor. The tower is sometimes confused with a broadcasting tower, but it is primarily an observation and dining attraction, not a communications structure. It was designated a Seattle historic landmark in 1999.
