Which sea is located in Israel and Jordan?

The sea located along Israel and Jordan is the Dead Sea. Despite its name, it is actually a landlocked salt lake in the Jordan Rift Valley, bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west.

The Dead Sea has no outlet. Water arrives mainly through the Jordan River and evaporates in the region’s hot, dry climate, leaving behind an exceptionally high concentration of dissolved salts. Its salinity is roughly 9.6 times that of seawater, making the water dense enough for people to float easily.

The lake’s shores are the lowest exposed land elevation on Earth. It has also been important for thousands of years: people harvested minerals from it, and the nearby caves at Qumran yielded the famous Dead Sea Scrolls. A common mix-up is the Sea of Galilee, another Israeli lake, which is freshwater and lies north of the Dead Sea.
