Which sea is famous for having no land boundaries?
Answer
Sargasso Sea
Answer
Sargasso Sea
The Sargasso Sea is the only sea defined by ocean currents rather than land boundaries. It lies in the North Atlantic and is enclosed broadly by the North Atlantic Current, Gulf Stream, North Atlantic Drift, and Canary Current.
Its name comes from the floating brown seaweed genus Sargassum, which can gather in large mats at the surface. Early European sailors noticed this vegetation and sometimes feared that calm conditions would leave ships stranded among it. The sea is part of the North Atlantic subtropical gyre, a vast circulation system.
The Sargasso Sea has no fixed coastline, so its exact edges can shift with current patterns. It is also an important habitat for young eels, sea turtles, seabirds, and other marine life.
It is not the same as the Bermuda Triangle, although both are associated with the western North Atlantic. The Bermuda Triangle is an informal region, while the Sargasso Sea is an oceanographic feature.
