Which sea borders Granville, Christian Dior’s birthplace?

The story behind the answer

The English Channel borders Granville, Christian Dior’s birthplace.

Granville is a port town on the coast of Normandy in northwestern France. It faces the English Channel, the body of water separating southern England from northern France. Dior was born there in 1905 and spent part of his childhood at Villa Les Rhumbs above the coast.

The location is sometimes described broadly as the Atlantic coast because the English Channel connects with the Atlantic Ocean. For a precise geographic answer, however, Granville is situated on the English Channel. It is not a Mediterranean or North Sea town.

The coastal setting forms part of the background to Dior’s early life, although his later fashion career was centered in Paris. Today, visitors can connect the town’s maritime landscape with the villa and museum dedicated to the designer.
