Martin Scorsese’s film featuring characters killed with baseball bats is Casino.
The victims are brothers Nicky and Dominick Santoro, played by Joe Pesci and Philip Suriano. After Nicky’s increasingly reckless behavior threatens the Chicago mob’s casino interests, the organization orders their deaths. The brothers are ambushed, brutally beaten with baseball bats, and buried alive in an Illinois cornfield.
Casino, released in 1995, dramatizes the Mafia’s influence over Las Vegas casinos during the 1970s and 1980s. Robert De Niro plays casino executive Sam “Ace” Rothstein, while Pesci’s Nicky is a fictionalized version of mob enforcer Anthony Spilotro. The baseball-bat murder is based on a real gangland killing associated with Spilotro and his brother Michael.
A common mix-up is confusing Casino’s baseball-bat sequence with violent scenes in Goodfellas, another Scorsese crime film starring Pesci. Goodfellas contains several infamous killings, but the specific beating and burial of two brothers belongs to Casino.
