Which school of Indian philosophy is founded on the Yoga Sutras?

The story behind the answer

The school of Indian philosophy founded on the Yoga Sutras is the Yoga school.

Yoga is one of the six orthodox—or āstika—schools of classical Hindu philosophy. Its most influential systematic text is the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, a compact collection of aphorisms on the mind, disciplined practice, meditation, liberation, and the obstacles to spiritual insight. The school’s metaphysics closely parallels Samkhya, distinguishing conscious puruṣa from material prakṛti.

The Yoga Sutras describe an eight-limbed path: ethical restraints, observances, posture, breath control, sense withdrawal, concentration, meditation, and samadhi. The ultimate goal is kaivalya, often translated as liberation or isolation of consciousness. Modern postural yoga draws on this tradition but is much broader in practice and history; the philosophical school should not be reduced to exercise. The other options are separate orthodox schools: Mimamsa emphasizes ritual interpretation, Vaisheshika analyzes categories of reality, and Nyaya focuses on logic and valid knowledge.
