Which Saturn moon is Pandora’s inner shepherd companion in the F ring system?

The story behind the answer

Prometheus is Pandora’s inner shepherd companion in Saturn’s F ring system.

Saturn’s narrow F ring is gravitationally influenced by two small moons. Prometheus orbits inside the ring, while Pandora orbits outside it. Their combined gravity helps confine and shape the ring’s dusty, changing structure.

Prometheus and Pandora are irregular, potato-shaped satellites with low densities and heavily cratered surfaces. Prometheus is also known for creating disturbances and streamer-channels in the F ring as it passes near ring material.

The names come from Greek mythology. Prometheus is the Titan who steals fire for humanity, while Pandora is associated with the famous container in the later version of the myth. Their neighboring astronomical roles therefore connect two mythological names in Saturn’s ring system.
