The Aïr Mountains contain Mount Idoukal-n-Taghès, the highest peak of the Aïr massif in Niger.
The Aïr is a roughly north–south mountain system surrounded by the Ténéré Desert. Its high volcanic and granitic terrain includes valleys, cliffs and seasonal drainage channels that provide ecological variety in a very dry region.
Mount Idoukal-n-Taghès is also known as Mont Bagzane and rises to about 2,022 metres. The peak belongs to the Bagzane massif in the southern Aïr.
The Aïr should not be confused with the Tibesti Mountains of Chad and Libya or the Ahaggar Mountains of Algeria. Those ranges are also prominent Saharan highlands but contain different summits.
