Which Sagrada Família façade is planned as the main entrance?

The story behind the answer

The Glory façade is planned as the Sagrada Família’s main entrance.

The Glory façade is the basilica’s southern façade and is intended to provide the principal access to the central nave. Its theme is Christ’s celestial glory, following the theological sequence of death, final judgment and glory. In Gaudí’s overall concept, the three grand façades correspond to major parts of Christ’s story: the Nativity façade to his birth, the Passion façade to his suffering, and the Glory façade to his triumphant divinity.

Because it is the largest of the three principal façades, the Glory side is also one of the most ambitious parts of the project. Construction began in 2002, long after Gaudí’s death, and the work remains associated with the basilica’s continuing completion program.

The Nativity façade is sometimes mistaken for the main entrance because it is the oldest completed façade and bears the strongest direct imprint of Gaudí’s hand. The Passion façade, by contrast, is the western entrance and is recognized by its austere stonework and angular sculpture.
