Which rooster crows to warn the gods at the start of Ragnarök?

The story behind the answer

Gullinkambi is the rooster that crows to warn the gods at the start of Ragnarök.

The rooster appears in the Poetic Edda poem Völuspá, where its crowing signals that the final crisis is beginning. Gullinkambi is described as a golden rooster who crows to the Æsir in Valhalla, alerting the gods and the slain warriors gathered there.

He is one of three significant roosters associated with Ragnarök. The red rooster Fjalar crows in the forest of Gálgviðr, while another soot-red rooster crows in the halls of the underworld. Their calls form part of the ominous chain of signs preceding the gods’ final battle.

Gullinkambi is often confused with Fjalar because both are named roosters in the Ragnarök prophecy. Ratatoskr, by contrast, is the squirrel that runs up and down Yggdrasil, while Hræsvelgr is an eagle-shaped giant associated with wind.
