Which Roman goddess was the protector of the hearth and home?

The story behind the answer

Vesta was the Roman goddess who protected the hearth and home.

Vesta represented the sacred fire and the household hearth, which Romans viewed as symbols of family continuity and communal life. Unlike many Roman gods, she was rarely shown in human form; her presence was often represented by the fire burning in her temple in the Roman Forum.

Her state cult was maintained by the Vestal Virgins, priestesses charged with keeping the sacred flame alight. Roman tradition treated the fire as essential to the safety and endurance of the state. Vesta was also connected with family and, in some traditions, the wider Roman people as a single household.

Her Greek counterpart was Hestia, but Vesta had an especially prominent public role at Rome. Her principal festival, the Vestalia, ran from June 7 to 15. Diana was associated with the hunt, Juno with marriage and queenship, and Ceres with agriculture, so none is the best answer for the hearth and home.
