Which Roman general became Cleopatra's lover after Julius Caesar?

Mark Antony became Cleopatra's lover after Julius Caesar. Their relationship began in 41 BC, several years after Caesar's assassination in 44 BC, when Antony summoned Cleopatra to Tarsus to answer allegations that she had supported his enemies.

Antony was one of Rome's most powerful military leaders and a member of the Second Triumvirate with Octavian and Lepidus. Cleopatra and Antony formed both a personal and political partnership. They had three children: twins Alexander Helios and Cleopatra Selene II, born in 40 BC, and Ptolemy Philadelphus, born around 36 BC.

A common mix-up is confusing Antony with Octavian, who was Antony's rival and later became the emperor Augustus. Antony's alliance with Cleopatra helped provoke the final Roman civil war. After their defeat at Actium in 31 BC and the fall of Alexandria in 30 BC, both died by suicide. Their deaths ended Ptolemaic rule in Egypt and left Octavian in control of the Roman world.
